  5. Escherichia coli ribonuclease III (EC 3.1.26.3) (gene rnc) [1]  is  an  enzyme
  6. that digests double-standed RNA. It is involved in the processing of ribosomal
  7. RNA precursors and of  some mRNAs.  Fission  yeast pac1 [2]  is a ribonuclease
  8. that probably  inhibits  mating  and  meiosis  by  degrading a  specific  mRNA
  9. required for sexual development.

  11. These two enzymes  are  evolutionary  related  and  share  regions of sequence
  12. similarity; one of which is a perfectly conserved stretch of 11 residues which
  13. we use as a signature pattern.
